Birth of a Valley Project (Click here for further details)
The history of Pontardawe and the Swansea Valley is to be recorded and preserved thanks to an award of £49,500 from the Heritage Lottery Fund. The Birth of a Valley’ project will enable the community to bring together the diverse heritage of their area, highlighting in particular the significant role of the Swansea Canal.

“The Swansea Canal Society has been researching and recording the development of the Pontardawe area and the canal for nearly 30 years, so we are extremely pleased that our partner, the Arena has been awarded this Heritage Lottery Fund grant. Now we can give back to local people their heritage and their roots and help them to understand why their ancestors came to this valley and created the communities of Pontardawe, Ynysmeudwy, Trebanos, Alltwen and the surrounding villages." - Clive Reed, Secretary of the Swansea Canal Society
