Welcome to the Arena Pontardawe website
We are a small group of volunteers with big plans for our Community and the region. Our main objective is to transform a15 acre brown-field site at the Glanrhyd Industrial Estate on the outskirts of Pontardawe in South Wales by building an all weather, multi-purpose arena complex and venue for a wide range of activities - recreational, business, sporting and educational. This is the Arena Pontardawe Project.
This Project has just been awarded a very generous £300,000 over two years from the Community Facilities and Activities Programme and is earmarked for phase one build of the Arena complex - the smaller of two indoor, multi-purpose arenas, to be erected adjacent to the Riverside Park. We still need to find more to complete the necessary parking and landscaping round the building but this is a huge boost and very encouraging to Committee members for their long-term dedication to the project.
In addition, we have obtained funding to renovate and extend a small, semi derelict Community building on adjacent parkland – the Riverside Park Project. Building work is now completed and the Arena Committee is working with local groups to develop a programme of activities and events to ensure its future for the people of Pontardawe. If you would like to use the Riverside Centre, please get in touch with us on 01269 822515
We also work in partnership with other local groups for the good of our
community. In 2007 Arena Pontardawe was granted a Heritage Lottery Fund
award for a Heritage Officer, to develop our
“Birth of a
Valley” Project.
